In The Happiness Delusion (which is the first book-length English translation of this author’s work), Bueno sets his critical eye on the mass of literature on happiness bought and sold on highly dubious assumptions, laying out a classification of the incompatible and often unconscious models at work in these assumptions. In doing so, he deploys his system of philosophy—philosophical materialism—to critique the Western canon, history, and science to lay the foundations for a much better informed understanding of the idea of happiness.
